Shout! Factory is set to release a Blu-ray collection, Shaw Bothers Classic: Volume 2, on August 15, 2023. This collection will consist of 12 films that are region A compatible. These films include Lady of Steel (1970), Brothers Five (1970), The Crimson Charm (1971), The Shadow Whip (1971), The Delightful Forest (1972), The Devil’s Mirror (1972), Man of Iron (1972), The Water Margin (1972), The Bride from Hell (1971), Heroes Two (1974), The Flying Guillotine (1975), and The Dragon Missile (1976).

This magnificent collection includes 12 timeless martial arts movies from the renowned Shaw Brothers’ collection, showcasing some of their most beloved actors – Cheng Pei-pei (Come Drink With Me), Lo Lieh (King Boxer), Sammo Hung (Wheels On Meals), Ti Lung (A Better Tomorrow), and David Chiang (The Boxer From Shantung). Several of these films have undergone high-definition remastering.

These movies will be released on Blu-ray for the first time. Prepare for an exhilarating showdown between heroes and villains!

LADY OF STEEL

Cheng Pei-pei was Hong Kong’s first and most celebrated queen of kung fu because her performances set all the standards for future female martial arts stars like Michelle Yeoh. Lady of Steel is a high-plains-drifter adventure where Cheng Pei-pei plays a swordswoman on a mission: to find the bandits that killed her parents and save the country from foreign invaders.

BROTHERS FIVE

Cheng plays the role of Yen Lai, the only person capable of uniting the Kao siblings to protect Teng Lung Manor from dangerous assassins and avenge their father’s death.

THE DELIGHTFUL FOREST

“The Delightful Forest” is a film co-directed by Chang Cheh and Pao Hsueh-li, and written by Ni Kuang, Chang Cheh, and Chin Shu-Mei. The story centers around the legendary hero Wu Sung (played by Ti Lung), who is sent to prison in the Meng province after killing his sister-in-law and a local ruffian. In prison, he becomes friends with the prison officer Shih En (played by Tien Ching), who saves him from being punished with a baton like other new prisoners. Wu learns that Shih’s restaurant, “Delightful Forest,” has been taken over by the local thug Chiang Chung (played by Chu Mu).

THE DEVIL’S MIRROR

Sun Chung’s debut film for the Shaw Brothers is a noteworthy and significant one. He quickly captivated audiences with this action-packed story about a “Devil Girl” manipulating two clans to attain two mystical mirrors of immense power. It’s up to a heroic swordsman (portrayed by Lau Dan) and a stunning swordswoman (played by Shu Pei-pei from The Thundering Sword) to put an end to her plans.

MAN OF IRON

Chen Kuan-tai displayed immense strength on screen, which his directors skillfully utilized in this action-packed sequel to the popular film The Boxer From Shantung. The only mistake Chou Lien Huan makes is winning money in a gambling match with the playboy son of a Shanghai gang leader… but this is enough to spark an intense desire for revenge in both the father and son. This film is a significant milestone in the history of kung fu movies.
