Eureka plans to release the Blu-ray (Region A/B) for A Queen’s Ransom (also known as International Assassin) on May 27, 2024. This film, directed by Ting Shan-hsi (known for The Ghost Hill), features a star-studded cast and is an action-packed thriller from 1976.

Even the power of God may be unable to rescue the Queen in the film “A Queen’s Ransom” by Golden Harvest. This intense action-packed thriller features George Lazenby (known for “The Man from Hong Kong”), Angela Mao (“Lady Whirlwind”), and the iconic Jimmy Wang Yu (famous for “The One-Armed Swordsman”).

Amidst Queen Elizabeth II’s arrival in Hong Kong for a diplomatic trip, a skilled group of mercenary soldiers plot her murder. Commissioned by an Irish Republican named Lazenby, the diverse team of hired assassins consists of a Japanese specialist in explosives named Chang Pei-shan, a Thai boxer called Bolo Yeung, a Filipino sharpshooter named Peter Chan Lung, and an experienced American gunfighter named Ted Burnett. of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam (Wang Yu). As the conspirators move to carry out their plot, two police officials (Ko Chun-Hsiung and Charles Heung) work with a young socialite (Tanny Tien Ni) in a race against time to save the Monarch’s head – while also trying to manage a crisis that has brought a huge number of refugees  to Hong Kong, including a young Cambodian princess (Mao).

Ting Shan-hsi, the director and writer of The Ghost Hill, created A Queen’s Ransom as Golden Harvest’s endeavor to profit from the popularity of political thrillers after the success of The Day of the Jackal. Eureka Classics is pleased to offer the film on Blu-ray for the first time, with a fresh 2K restoration.
