RELEASE DATE: April 22, 2024

On April 22, 2024, Eureka plans to release a Blu-ray (Region A/B) of Black Mask, a 1996 sci-fi action film directed by Daniel Lee (known for Code of the Assassins and Dragon Blade) and starring Jet Li (known for League of Gods and Last Hero in China).

The lead role in a thrilling superhero movie, created by the iconic Tsui Hark, is played by Jet Li!

subjects turn up dead

Tsui Chik (Li) is a librarian who lives a low-key and modest existence – or, at least, that’s the image he wants to portray. In reality, he used to be part of the 701 Squad, a team of highly skilled fighters created through a flawed super-soldier program. Like his former colleagues, his central nervous system has been modified to make him immune to pain. However, when several of his fellow participants end up dead…

As their former leader Hung Kuk (played by Patrick Lung) takes command, the subjects resurface and engage in a series of criminal activities. This forces Tsui to tap into his exceptional skills once again. Putting on a disguise, he confronts his past as the vigilante known as the Black Mask.

Based on the comic by Pang Chi-ming and Li Chi-tak, and influenced by Bruce Lee’s portrayal of Kato in The Green Hornet, Black Mask is considered one of Jet Li’s most enjoyable films. The action was choreographed by Yuen Woo-ping, who went on to win an Academy Award for his work on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Eureka Classics is pleased to offer the film in its unedited form on Blu-ray, restored in 2K.

Black Mask also stars Lau Ching Wan (The White Storm 3), Karen Mok (So Close), Françoise Yip (Rumbe in the Bronx), Anthony Wong (Visible Secret), Moses Chan Ho (Purple Storm) and Henry Fong Ping (A Hero Never Dies), Lawrence Ah Mon (My Name Is Fame).
