During the summer, take advantage of nature’s gift to us – watermelon. When selecting a watermelon, opt for one that feels heavy, as this is a sign of a good watermelon.
The striking hue of red in watermelon is due to its abundance of lycopene. This drink, resembling a ruby gem, not only entices our taste buds but also provides numerous benefits for our health. With a water content of 92%, watermelon is considered a superfood that effectively hydrates our bodies. Additionally, its high potassium levels make it a rich source of antioxidants.
Although pre-packaged juice and carbonated juices are conveniently accessible, fresh juice offers its own advantages. Additionally, pre-packaged juices contain artificial additives and preservatives to prolong their shelf life, which can be detrimental to one’s health.

Recipe for Watermelon Mint Juice
I came across this variation on a juice shop’s menu, which uses mint juice. I wanted to try it because watermelon and lemon are a classic refreshing combination, and the addition of mint gives it an extra kick, perfect for the summertime.

Mint – 10 leaves
Lemon – 1 tsp
Sugar – 1 tablespoon
Salt – a pinch
Ice cubes – few
Method
-
Peel the watermelon and dispose of the seeds. Cut into small cubes. In a blender, combine the chopped watermelon, mint, sugar, and salt. Blend until well mixed. Then, add lemon juice to the mixture.
Serve Chilled.
Expert Tips
-
If your watermelon is not sweet, you have the option to add sugar or honey. However, if your watermelon variety is already sweet, there is no need for additional sweetener.
-
I chilled the watermelons before serving, so I did not include ice cubes. However, you can add 1-2 ice cubes if desired.
-
Adding salt or chaat masala powder adds a delightful kick, you could consider trying it out.
-
Be sure to mix thoroughly before serving to prevent the water from settling at the bottom.

Serving & Storage Suggestion
You can enjoy it as is or with a few ice cubes. It’s best to drink fruit juice fresh, so I don’t suggest keeping it stored. However, you can refrigerate cut fruit cubes for up to 2 days and make juice as needed.
The juice from watermelon can be stored at room temperature for 4-6 hours, or in the fridge for 1 day. You can also freeze the juice in a mold to make popsicles.
