Pro Tips
- Adjust the amount of water based on the desired thickness of the puree.
- You have the option to include salt if desired. However, it is recommended to refrain from adding salt until the child turns one year old.
- You can use a spoon or blend it in a mixer or blender according to your baby’s preference.
- You have the option to either cook with a lid on or pressure cook. Cooking with a lid on will help preserve the nutrients.
- Breast milk should be used until the child is 1 year old. If you choose not to introduce formula milk, you can use water instead. However, if you prefer, you may use formula milk. Once the child reaches 1 year old, cow’s milk can be used.
- Either milk or water can be added to make the consistency thinner for easier feeding.
- You can adjust the texture to your liking. To achieve a smooth puree, use a mixer. For a slightly chunkier texture, use a blender. Alternatively, you can mash it by hand. As your child grows, gradually change the texture from smooth to more coarse.
- Instead of discarding the water, utilize it to prepare the puree.
- As your baby develops the ability to chew, gradually alter the consistency of fruit and vegetable purees.
- When selecting potatoes, opt for a firm, white variety. Additionally, ensure that carrots and beets are both sweet and firm.
- I always prepare fresh purees and feed them to my child. Alternatively, you can make purees and freeze them for up to 5 days. Before feeding, thaw and warm them up. However, I suggest making fresh purees and consuming them.
